HOW TO IDENTIFY CHILDREN’S LEARNING STYLES

 

During learning, children receive information and process information differently. At an early stage of the child, observational signs indicate the most likely learning   signs in children and the signs include doing, listening, or looking, parents and teachers can assist their children in helping shape their overall experience in their education to prioritize their learning style and also help them blend all-around learning

 

Parents and teachers can identify a child’s learning styles in 3 major ways which are listed below.

 

3 MAJOR WAYS OF IDENTIFYING CHILDREN’S LEARNING STYLES

 

The three major ways to identify your children learning styles that would help them foster their strengths and also help them understand what they do around them are:

 

1. KINESTHETIC AND TACTILE STYLE (HELPS LEARNING BY MOVING, TOUCHING AND DOING)

2.     AUDITORY STYLE (HELPS LEARNING BY HEARING)

3.    VISUAL STYLE (HELPS LEARNING BY SEEING)

 

1 KINESTHETIC AND TACTILE LEARNING STYLE:

 Children who exhibit these types of learning styles learn majorly by doing things on their own, if your child likes sports, dances very well, or uses his hands to do things, then he or she is strengthened in these areas. The children who have abilities in these areas tend to have a strong sense of balancing. For example, these types of learners gesticulate a lot, he or she demonstrates while singing or listening to songs, they are mostly good in choreography and barley.

 

They also love using counting sticks or their fingers while counting in numeracy. Most of these signs appear in your children from their babyhood and grow with them.

 

Signs that your child is a kinaesthetic or Tactile learner are listed below:

 

·       The child would display coordination of 

         Sharp eye.

 

·       The child would be good in physical 

         activities such as dance and sports.

 

·       The child would tend to fidget on her seat, such 

         a child likes moving while processing 

         data or information.

 

·       The child gesticulates while explaining things 

         and while speaking.

 

·       The child would love acting, play, or drama.

 

·       Such children love doing imaginative writing, 

        handwriting exercises, and drawing.

 

·     While they are babies their physical development 

       would be very fast such as early sitting, 

       crawling, and walking.

 

2.      AUDITORY LEARNING STYLE:

 

These types of learners learn by listening, they learn through participation during discussions and they talk mostly in class during storybook reading period, Verbal direction helps them understand instructions or written information. Learners with this strength can’t thrive when learning in a noisy environment, they learn best in a quiet environment.

Auditory learners are fascinated by sound. They love music and love playing instruments and singing. They are mostly good listeners and they are very vocal. They learn well through oral directions.

 

Signs that your child is an auditory learner are listed below

 

·       The child is good or exceptional in musical 

         instruments, music and the vocal  ability is high.

 

·       The child can memorize songs and can create

          his/her song while playing.

 

·       The child can remember and repeat what has 

         been said by the teacher.

 

·       The child listening ability is high and he or 

         she follows verbal directions thoroughly

 

·       The child loves talking and discussing.

 

·       They notice sounds others do not recognise.

 

·       Always happy when there is music and dialogue.

 

VISUAL LEARNING STYLE

 

Visual learners usually learn through observations of their world and they are artistically inclined. This type of learner is interested in looking at paintings, going through illustrations in books, and picking interest in photographs.

Visual learners love to see screens irrespective of the screens which could be, televisions, movies, and or computers, and the information found on these devices are easily retained by them

These learners’ memories are very sharp. the child easily remembers places, people, and names.

 

Signs that your child is a visual learner are listed below

 

·       The child’s imagination is very vivid.

 

·       The child is interested in art and craft, 

        drawing and paintings.

 

·       The child has a very strong memory that describes the information that can be observed visually.

 

·       The learner understands maps very well 

        and giving road direction is perfect.

 

·       The learner loves reading books.

 

·       The learner can easily recognise 

        places, faces, and people.

 

·       He or she likes going around, observing

         his or her world.

Learn about your child’s style through observation to know what he or she is interested in doing and what he or she prefers most helps you to determine how your child processes information

Ensure you focus on your child’s strength and help him or her develop in his or her weak areas
